Recenty Installed T-KJr Tankless Water Heater
The heater installed easily and works very well; however the unit was not complete as delivered. After the unit was installed the plumber discovered that the heater was missing the inlet water filter and O-ring seal. I called the service center listed on the installation manual and got the usual response that the retailer was somehow responsible for the contents of the shipment. I sent Amazon an E-mail and got no response; I sent Takagi an E-mail and got no response. Finally I had to go to the Takagi service center in Irvine and purchase the missing parts; obviously I could have sent the heater back to Amazon and had a replacement unit delivered, but think about how much trouble and expense this would have been compared to the missing parts that were less that $10. One final note: I know that Takagi tested the unit before it left their factory because there was still water in it when the plugs were removed from the connection ports, but there was also Teflon thread dope in the...

Excellent
The T-KJR does all that units costing twice as much will do plus more. They are rated for heating applications, which most tankless heaters aren't, and have a wide range of easy to change temperature settings. We now have a number of these as heat sources for individual apartments. They work extremely well in combination with European style, wall panel radiators. They may not have quite as high an energy efficiency rating as some, but at this price point that is almost irrelevant. For me, a few percentage points in efficiency is not worth 2-3 times the price. Other, pricier units probably won't last long enough to recapture the difference anyway.

unanswered questions
My unit is installed and working fine. I had to do some research to limit wild goose chases. A friend wanted me to install a unit. I told him I would after a few questions were answered.
1. With a stack out two feet above a 5/12 pitch roof, do I really need a back flow preventer? I really do not live in an area where cold air can enter the stack and freeze the unit, I do not smell harmful exhaust gases blowing back into the kitchen.
2. Do I really need a vertical condensate drain? The unit is servicing one person. After a 30 minute shower, I placed my hand directly on the exhaust stack. It was not hot enough to remove my hand. What condensate?
3. I was told I needed stainless steel double walled type F Stack out pipe. Considering the price, I do not think the inner wall aluminum is going to rust anytime soon.
4. I have not installed a pressure relief valve because the one required has not been available at the plumbing supply house. This item seems not applicable...

3 weeks in and its great
This model is compact, relatively lightweight and comes with a hard-wired water temperature adjuster (installment is optional). Hot water for 2 major appliances or a shower and appliance at a time. Super easy to install. The only down side is that it requires electricity to ignite the burners. Most tankless do though.

Outstanding Product
This tankless water heater fits great on the back side of my house. As advertised, I get limitless hot water. I'm sure that I use less water because I can adjust the temperature from a control panel inside of my house. Great product! Great price!

Endless hot water, compact,
The Jr. is under rated. I have one in a 2 bathroom rental house and it is fine. Placed in a right location to your needs ( central) or with a recirculating pump with a timer, it can't be beat. This is my 6th. Tagaki in my last 4 houses. All were very reliable. I like the vent built in the outdoor units. It saves about $40 on a vent cap or vent pipes. For colder zones, indoor unit with a proper Z-vent is recommend. Otw, outdoor will do just fine. In a hard water application, water softener is highly recommended for longevity. For well or dirty water areas, pre-sediment filter is recommended.

best demand units on the market
I have used just about every brand of demand units in light commercial operations in buildings I own. I have had difficulties with every unit except Takagi. I have two in a commercial laundry that is 10 years old and never had an issue. well worth the extra money for the comfort of knowing the unit is going to work

Took a while
I had a Takagi for over 8 years. I had to get it serviced twice and it was hard to find someone who was authorized in my area. The old unit started going out and a few days later the wiring in the unit melted and it was toast. Contacted an authorized contractor and he estimated replacement costs at $4200 and he was the only one authorized by the company. Instead of using him I ordered a new unit through Amazon Prime that could handle a high volume of use if needed. My son and a handyman removed the old unit and put in the Takagi T-D2-in-ng. Yes I know the warranty is void yet I could save $3000. Needed to change some of the connections as they were on different side of the unit. I worked right away. Then two weeks later it stopped working. The code indicated some kind of combustion problem although the manual was not very helpful which was to do to fix. In reading reviews and looking at the Takagi website they indicated that we needed a 3/4 inch gas connnection and not the...

Stay away from Takagi !!!
DO NOT BUY A TAKAGI TANKLESS WATER HEATER. I gave 1 star only because I couldn't give a negative star. I have had 2 Takagi Tankless Water Heaters and they both failed prematurely. Takagi will not stand behind their product. In June of 2006 I had a Takagi T-M1 installed in my residence. The unit worked fine until November of 2010 when it broke down. The error code indicated a failed fan. With the advice of Technical Services, I replaced the fan motor and several other components. That did not correct the problem. After 3 days without hot water, I did not want to wait any longer. I replaced the T-M1 with a brand new Takagi T-M32 NG. The T-M32 worked fine for 9 months then stopped working. There was water leaking from inside the unit and an error code indicated a failure to ignite. After several phone calls and emails to customer service, I shipped the unit to Takagi for warranty repair (remember, it broke down after only 9 months). Takagi had my heater for 18 days before they sent me...

Stay away!!
Our takagi was an outdoor water heater and four days after installing it it failed. Water got inside unit and takagi refused to stand behind their product! They said warranty does not include weather damage...really because I thought we purchased an outdoor unit!

Takagi Tankless Water Heater is GREAT
I built my new home in 2000 and tankless were hard to find and most plumbers knew little if anything about them. Since I was the builder of my home I selected a Takagi the commercial model they had at the time MB-1. I sold the home in 2009 and while I lived there we had absolutely no problems with the water heater and loved having an endless supply.

I am about to buy a home with 2 water heaters located in the attic and I plan to pull both of them out and replace with a Takagi.

They have been around longer and pioneered tankless water heating while US makers were still pushing there old tank water heaters.

I think they make a great product. As far as standing behind it, I can't say because we had no problems.

Takagi TK-04-OS
This tankless heater came recommended to me by three other contractors I know.

They did not dissappoint me. the unit ,once installed is flawless and workd perfectly.

I have nothing bad to say of this unit at all !!

I will say that it would probably be best if this unit is installed by a professional.

First it doesn't void your warranty and second it is not just a plug and play item.

Once installed you will love it.

Great product and service
I do not write many reviews but felt the need to praise this product and company. The 1st thing to understand is this technology is relatively new as opposed to a conventional tank water heater. With that said here is my experience. I had this models predecessor installed in 2008 a t-k3 along with the appropriate filters in front of it to protect it from hard water deposits a MUST ! Unit worked flawlessly for 5 years, I had the annual service performed, descalling and cleaning the heater core and filters . I began to have some trouble with the unit then not turning on once in a while, I called the Takagi help desk and they sent me the needed parts igniter and technical instructions at no charge. I performed the service replaced the gaskets and the unit worked well until 2014 before acting up again. When I pulled the cover I noticed that there was corrosion occurring as a result of tiny water leaks, I called the Takagi help desk and they totally supported the now 7-8 year old...

love my old Takagi
Just be sure to order the correct unit for your needs,,,,, natural gas and propane units are quite different and also there are inside and outside units. I was shipped a missmarked unit , ordered propane and had to return a natural gas unit, and pay return shipping from Hawaii. Mike

Good heated water
Bought this unit for my cabin. It really works good. It takes about a minute for it to heat the water. It did freeze during the cold weather this year but that was might fault. It burst a copper line inside the unit but the rupture was where I could solder it. So far it has held. My unit is outside. This would not have happened if I had read the directions better. I shut the cabin down during Christmas and pulled power on everything. I am off-grid and I was wanting to save battery power. When I did that I shut the auto-freeze control inside this unit off. I believe it says that a inside heater comes on automatically to prevent freeze when the weather is below 36 degrees. If I had not cut the power I would not have had a rupture.

The part if I had not been able to fix was about $300. I was lucky. The unit is a good one and easy to install.

Great Product and Great Price
Purchased this for our Park Model trailer, I figured the 6gpm would be more than necessary but the price was to good to pass up. Be prepared to spend an extra 150-200 dollars for the required hardware for installation. We are very pleased with this unit, it takes about 20 seconds for the hot water to reach our shower but after that we never run out. I even ran the dish washer at the same time with no problems. So overall for the price and GPM we are very pleased.

When it worked, it was fine. But the maintenance on these things and the WORST CUSTOMER SUPPORT EVER with guys with the heaviest unintelligible accents ever, who refuse to honor a single darned iota of the warranty makes this an unmitigated disaster and piece of garbage. I cannot stress this enough: AVOID AVOID AVOID.

I have installed about a dozen of these over the years, and only had two work properly for more than five years. And when they break, they are never ever fixable. It's rip off the old one and put in a new one, but Takagi constant changes its inlet/outlet configurations, so there's about about grand in plumbing costs right there.

I have several rental properties, and I installed a few Rheem units when I was low on cash because I got a close-out deal, and I thought those would be lousy, a short term solution. But over ten years later, they have been absolutely trouble free. Only one had an issue, and the warranty came through and they replaced it at...

Don't but this pile of junk
These Takagi water heaters are nothing but a big pile of s***. I've had 2 of these so far in a rental house that I am a partner in. Each one lasted about a year and a half and started having problems with each unit after about 1 year, these were both brand new units I am talking about here. I called Takagi's "authorized" technician for my area when I had problems with unit #1. This so called "technician" knew nothing about these things or how to fix one. He suggested pulling out the circuit board and sending it back to the factory for repair. He said I would get it back "good as new" in about 3 weeks. Keep in mind that this is a rental house with a family living in it. I had no choice except to have the unit replaced with a new Takagi unit at a cost of around $1200. I thought the problems were solved.

Almost exactly one year later, the tennants call to say they are having problems with unit #2. I called a different "authorized technician" this time. He informed me that the...

Works like a champ!
I've had my T-K4-IN NG for over a year (installed May of 2011). It has met all of my expectations. Endless hot water for a household of 6. It replaced an older electric tank hot water heater that failed in spectacular fashion (gallons of water all over the floor). I like the fact that I do not have to worry about being the last one in the shower, or staying too long in the shower if there are others waiting to get in right after me. Great product, absolute pleasure to own.

This water heater kicks ass
This is one hot-hot water heater. It heats water really well. If you're planning to install this yourself, figure on two days of work and two hardware store runs before you have hot water again. Make sure the family is prepped for that, or out of town!

Takagi water heaters are very well made, and installation is straightforward. The surprises are going to come from the site selection (probably where your big old tank water heater was) and getting the water pipes, gas pipe, and an electrical outlet lined up. Typically tank water heaters have their gas connection near the floor and the water lines near the ceiling, with tankless the connections are all along the bottom face of the machine.

Takagi is now owned by AO Smith. Many of the accessories are sold under the AO Smith label with identical part numbers to the Takagi counterparts. You must buy the valve kit: AO Smith 9007604005 Isolation Valve...

Long but not difficult install. Excellent when finished.
It took me about 12 hours to remove the old tank, reroute the cold feed and hot water lines, install a new flex gas feed, drill the wholes in my outside wall for air flow. I had an existing 110VAC outlet.

I had read that the "AO Smith 9007604005 Isolation Valve Kit" was required. Mine was delayed by a blizzard, but I found a standard set at my local Lowes for less money. They are not so special, just drains and shutoffs on in and out as well as tap for pressure valve on out side. You could use standard 3/4" black pipe parts to build your own for less, but the kits are nicely compact and clean.

My only installation issue was finding a pressure only relief safety valve (not included). Everything local was Temp and Pressure and will not fit. I capped it off for 3 days while I got the part. Got mine here at Amazon: "Rheem AP12993C Pressure Relief Valve"...

finally
no more tanks of hot water losing heat to my air-conditioning. Great product which I have used many times before and had no problems. And it's nice to get back the space that the old clunker took up. My gas bill has been cut in half.

Great product works great get it!
AWESOME!!! This unit replaced an older Takagi T-K3, IF you believe the sales hype and don't do critical thinking and educate your self you will pay over $1000.00 for the next model bigger. I have 3 1/2 baths two washing machines and a dish washer. I use 1 and at most 2 at the same time. So why do I need 10+ GPM when my shower head is a water saver and only lets out 1.6 GPM. Hmm that would run all three of my showers at the same time at 4.8 GPM.

This unit looks to be 98% the same as my T-K3 and it worked great until the heat exchanger sprung a leak and it cost me over 1000.00 dollars 10 years a go. This unit comes with a exterior remote control that you can adjust the temp with push of the bottom not dip switches like the T-K3. Also you can see GPM being used at the time and the temp of the incoming water temp. How cool if your a data geek like me, Pssss the wife does not care, all see wants is hot water on demand and it does its job....LOL. Wife happy the house is...

exlnt quality
I am a custom building contractor. In my personal home we had an Aquastar unit for 13 years- this Takagi unit appears to be of even higher quality, the sidewall venting package is clearly well thoughtout and manufactured.I will recomend the Takagi line of tankless h2o heaters on all my projects.

takagi tk jr 2 lp outdoor
This unit is installed as a back up on demand with a solar hot water system. it is replacing a aqua star which was perfect for 10 years but not available now...so this unit will work with a solar hot water system and the remote allows to adjust for incoming hot water...it was installed 2 months ago by a licensed plummer and so far excellent results with hot water. a nice fit for the solar system in place...Or as a stand alone tankless hot water heater. i'm happy to recommend this unit so far...

Works great. I had a 10 yr. old tankless that just barely put out hot water. This one is tremendous. All the hot water I want and the thermostat is so easy to use. My plumber recommended this one. Its what he uses on all his houses.

When it works, it's the best. When it doesn't....
Over the past 25 years, I have purchased over two dozen takagi tankless hot water heaters for buildings (i'm a landlord), other projects, and I highly recommend them. I have also purchased a handful of Rheem and Rhiann (sp?).

The other reviewer who gave it one star gives a very fair review, in that when these units go wrong, the company warranty back-up is non existant. Takagi's US warranty people are awful!! I have had two go wrong over the years, and ended up just buying a new one instead of dealing with the cheap jerks at the company to get the shoddy one they sold me replaced. Frankly, I think about 10% of them come out of the box poorly made. HOWEVER when they are well made, and 90% of them are, they are just silent workhorses and do work trouble free for years. I have several hitting the twenty year mark without a hitch. It's just something you deal with, the occasional bad units. Why? Because the other brands, Rheem and Rhiann (sp?) are far worse--they just don't...

Cheapened, problematic, bad warranty service
We purchased 4 of these units for space heating after reviewing Takagi's online information. We had installed TK2's 4 years ago and they continue to give us great service. These new TD2 units are 40 lbs vs 70 lbs for the older units. AOsmith bought Takagi about 2 years ago and completely redesigned all of the Takagi line. After installing the new units, we couldn't keep them running for more than 2 days without a code of some kind. One of them would only work with the door off. Throughout the time they were installed, our techs were in constant contact with takagi's hotline. The hotline people constantly contradict the install manuals and the online information. They were more interested in finding something we did that doesn't conform to the ever expanding list of requirements for proper operation. We were finally told that the TD2s couldn't be used for space heating. They couldn't be used in areas that get below 5 degrees. They must be drained every night. They can't be run at 180...

TK3 pro
I have installed 2 of the TK3pro and they are both awesome machines. I hadn't heard about Takagi being purchased by AO Smith, but I believe it, and don't think it's uncommon for a large company to buy another company out and then cheapen the new companies product line, so their own line will return to popularity (not that AO Smith has a bad name; I have only ever installed AO Smith tank-type water heaters and they are, as my friend likes to say "bullet-proof").
One the TK3's I used for a split domestic/radiator application I installed with a flat plate heat exchanger, so the TK3 only has to supply water through a 20 linear foot loop, and not deal with pressure and heating issues of pumping through an entire radiator system. The key, is the flat plate heat exchanger technology. Expensive, but awesome. As to the T-D2, I'm about to order one, but one of the reasons I went with the TK3pro over the TK3 was the heat exchanger was 'supposed' to be a heavier grade copper that had a much...

Review Takagi T-KJr2-IN-NG Indoor Tankless Water Heater, Natural Gas

Takagi T-KJr2-IN-NG Indoor Tankless Water Heater, Natural Gas

Takagi T-KJr2-IN-NG Indoor Tankless Water Heater, Natural Gas

6.6 GPM Natural Gas Indoor Tankless Water Heater **If adding the S8008001005 to your order and DO NOT have an exsisting 3/4" gas line, you will need to upgrade to one. The T-KJr2-IN-NG model is the smallest unit in the Takagi line-up. The T-KJr2-IN-NG is perfect for light residential (i.e. small apartment units) and radiant heating applications. This small but powerful unit, with gas inputs up to 140,000 BTU per hour, can meet all the hot water needs of a small American Home or apartment with one or two bathrooms. This unit will flow at a maximum of 6.6 gallons per minute. The Takagi T-KJr2-IN-NG can virtually do anything a 40 gallon tank-type water heater can do and more! The wall mounted T-KJr2-OS can support hydronic baseboard or radiant floor heating applications, as well as provide domestic hot water to plumbing fixtures and appliances. Since there is no tank to fill, there is no end to your supply of hot water. Depending on the model, Takagi Tankless water heaters deliver between...

Great deal, easy to intall. Requires reading, of course. Otherwise not beyone what most home owner already know.
I purchased this water heater from Amazon after 3 attempts to have Sears install a traditional 40 gallon (short). Problems were so numerous but not relevant to this review. Suffice it so say my frustration level reached to the point that I started thinking out of the box. I need hot water, my current one had died and I had already read several item about these type of water heater but really never consider them until I logged on to Amazon, I looked at their offering then went to Consumers Report plus consulted with a local plumber friend who, in the past had installed Rheem tankless water heaters but was not particularly impressed with them. After reading about Takagi (an extremely creative Japanese manufacturer ) at Consumers Report (they rated this water heater as a outstand product but service was only fair). The box warns that the warranty is void if it is not installed by a Takagi Certified Technician. Based on other reviews on Amazon the US based service techs are...

owner / plumber
i have 3 of these in my home and rent houses
this is the best i even use it to fill my hot tub with hot water

Compact and easy to install
We run a 4 suite Bed and Breakfast in the Finger Lakes region of NY state (The Yorkshire Inn). We have now installed 2 of these units, with each unit providing hot water to two suites. The units are compact and pretty much self contained. Both of our units came with the remote control unit - so it looks like you no longer need to purchase it separately. You need to run category III vent pipe. No single wall or PVC. It takes a 3/4 inch gas fitting and you need to ensure that you can feed it enough gas.

I was surprised to learn two aspects of the heater - it contains a power vent and it automatically adjusts the gas consumption for the demand. The power vent makes extended horizontal venting possible. If you live where the temperature can drop below 20 degrees outside, don't forget to install a back flow preventer in the vent pipe, otherwise you may freeze the heat exchanger. It is worth the extra $35 !!

This unit can easily provide 120 degree water to two...
