For What It's Worth.......
I’m a homeowner and our water heater tank died. So I needed a new gas hot water tank. After reading various reviews pro and con, I decided to go with a tankless gas water heater. I contacted a licensed contractor and he recommended Navien, among others. I did my own research and found Navien is highly recommended and highly rated. The contractor determined that the Navien NPE-180A model would work best for us. Total cost including installation was $2,200. You definitely need a licensed contractor to install unless you are a contractor yourself or an excellent do-it yourself person. However be aware that purchasing it on the Internet or a non-authorized dealer will void the warranty.

Once installed, it’s a beautiful piece of equipment and the extra storage space is a plus. It has all the latest digital technology. My only complaint, is even though the Navien claims to be instantaneous hot water, this is rather misleading. Any hot water you turn on takes...

Works perfectly the first time!
My builder installed this water heater in our new home and it worked perfectly as soon as it was turned on. Factory seatings allow the water temperature to be set up to 120 degrees. We first tried 110 and found it to be a little cool, but 115 seems just right. I am told that it's possible to change some internal jumpers to get as high as 140 degrees, but watch out for local code. The only surprise was the cost of the double wall exhaust pipes. At $550, not including labor, it cost nearly as much as the heater itself for about 15 feet of pipe, with two 45 degree bends, and the external venting cap on the outside wall of the house.

We are on well water, so I had a large whole house filter (10 inch) installed on the input side since I heard that these tankless heaters can get corroded quickly due to minerals in the water. I'll write back in hopefully at least 10 years when I need to replace it ;-)

I bought a XFJ180FDCH hot water heater about a year ago. No major troubles until now. It will not work and throws an E2 code. This CO doesn't have a phone number so I've been trying to get help by e-mail. Six days with no hot water and no answered e-mail. So don't expect service or parts. You can't go to your local parts house to get parts for this thing. I think they discontinued the 180. So if you buy a 120, good luck.

I purchased a Noritz NRC98-DV-NG around mid April 2014 and installed it myself. I have had problems with fluctuating water temperature since it was installed. I contacted Noritz, they did troubleshooting and told me I had a cross connection. I have never had any problems with my tank heater or my plumbing, my house was built in 2002. I called a Noritz certified plumber to come out and verify, he looked it over and said he would change out the shower valve first. This plumber did not charge me. So I buy a new shower valve $150, cut a hole in the drywall replace the valve patch all that up. I still have the same problem so I call Noritz, they say I still have a cross connection. I get a different Noritz certified plumber out, he charges $185 to show up and diagnose the problem. Emergency situation
Had my Paloma water heater(previous owner install)freeze up during the very cold temps of Jan 2014. Needless to say but it was finished with split copper all through it. Called a friend of mine who worked for Spaeder Plumbing and they showed up 2 days later and installed the above mentioned Navien unit. Could not be happier with this unit. Works flawlessly and had it installed for the asking price of the unit cost on Amazon. I would of paid more. If you have ever been without hot water in single digit temps, with children then you know what I mean by that. Great unit and phenomenal installation although they did have everything there just a few modifications and it was hooked up and ready to go. Very, very happy customer.

The only way to go.
I chose to go with a tankless water heater because of a lack of space problem. With my simple hot water needs, the small 330 was recommended.
So far, I am more than satisfied with this product. In the kitchen it takes apprx 20 seconds for the water to flow from the tap at top temperature, but once it does, hot water will flow endlessly. The bathroom is closer to the device and the water gets hot faster, plus the temp of the showers remains very constant.
Installation probably isn't a job for DIYers, proper venting is extremely important, get a professional.
Overall, I couldn't be more satisfied with my tankless, I can't wait to see my next gas bill!

Love it!!
We will only buy Bosch tankless water heater the other off brand we had does not match the Bosch tankless water heater.

Customers say's :
Great device, weak instructions, needs some modifications..
I love the idea of this water heater!
Installation should be easy..
Uses standard 3/4 inch threaded lines for in, out, and overflow.

However.. the GL8Ti has 2 overflow ports..
You plug one (depending on top or side mounting) and use the other one for overflow..
This is a very nice feature, and makes mounting quite flexible.

The fittings going into the heater are brass and should seal OK..
However they are NOT tapered (as I think they should be).

Both of these ports leaked with what I would consider good/normal installation (teflon tape).
Both of these ports leaked with "upgraded" installation (teflon tape, plus joint compound).
Both of these ports held with a "super upgraded installation" (Teflon tape, plus joint compound, plus a thick seal gasket). (Gaskets are not a good idea in a water heating device.. They tend to rot out)

Took me a day and a half to diagnose and "address" the leaks..
I hope the...

Totally meets expectations...
I have used an earlier model of this product. The new one is even better..."new and improved". It holds/makes enough hot water for 5th wheel. We can shower without running out as well as use the two sinks...just not too long or all at once for very long. Takes only a small space and uses very little electricity.

Ok for a sink but for a shower not so much
Well I installed this product under my shower 12 inches from my tub spout. If you like a camping shower your in good stead but if your looking to luxuriate and enjoy consistent warmth and comfort better to go to the gym. Shower without any cold water mix and with the thermostat turned to max will give you 3 to 4 minutes of comfortable showering before the temp starts to drop. My guess is you may do better with a low flow shower head or a different wife. Put me in the one sad category and look for it soon to be available on some selling site. We tried and we say Nancy Reagan was right just say NO!

So good I bought another one!
This is an excellent product. I put one in at home and liked it so much that we purchased one for our cabin. It makes even more sense at the cabin since it only gets used occasionally and then everyone wants to shower at the same time. We have one working on natural gas and the other on propane but there is no difference in how well they work. I did have to put in a bigger natural gas line to allow it to work at full capacity. Note that while this unit can support 4 showers going at once, the hot water piping in your house might not be able to keep up (we have one bathroom that gets 'short changed' if all the others are operating).

Plumber number 2 checks everything out and charges an additional $160 to troubleshoot with Noritz on the phone because there is a problem with the unit. They decide there is a bad circut board in the...

Considering
Considering some of the horror stories about houses nearly burning down by other brands I'd say my complaints are minuscule with this one. I was going to give it a 1 star but then I read the other reviews of other brands. Anyway, I had mine installed 2 years ago. Besides my one main complaint (I'm getting to that soon) it's one of the best purchases I've ever made for my home. I save a ton of money by not having a gas water heater (with a tank) and it's very efficient with electricity also (though I can't compare it to an electric water heater with a tank because I've never owned one).
When everything works it's perfect. You turn on the hot water and within seconds you have hot water. You can adjust the maximum temperature too so it's child safe (in case a kid decides to turn the hot water on full and gets scolded by it you can set the max to a very hot, but not burning, temp). I live in Northern Ohio so I've used it in both hot and cold (frigid) weather with absolutely no...

Excellent tankless water heater
I did a lot of research before buying this and having my licensed plumber install it to replace a very old 40 gallon gas water heater. I am very pleased with it, and its price here was better than anything we could find locally. So particularly with the tax credit available this year, I know that I will have paid for this (including installation) within 7 years based on our usage and current gas prices in our area. My plumber liked it too.
If you're thinking about a tankless water heater, however, you must realize that by definition it will take slightly longer to get hot water at your faucets. Right now hot water starts flowing from your big tank as soon as you open that faucet. With a tankless, the computer kicks in when you open the faucet, the gas flows to the burners, the electronic ignition creates flame, and the water is heated as it passes through the heater.
This heater seems to come on instantaneously when a faucet is opened (with a satisfying whoosh) and hot...

Hot, Hot, Hot!
While doing a major remodeling which involved relocating our water heater, we decided to go tankless. Since we were upgrading our shower and installing a garden whirlpool tub, we knew hot water demand would soar. Also, we knew both showers would be running at the same time and the old water heater just would not be able to keep up. Our plumber/HVAC contractor is a specialist in energy efficiency, having previously been an executive with a large national energy efficiency company prior to the bust. His recommendation: the Rinnai NG Tankless Water Heater.

It takes longer to get one installed properly, with the extra venting and the materials required. Don't be part of the learning curve for your installer. Make SURE your installer has experience with tankless installations and ASK FOR REFERENCES. It is a different technology and the installation techniques are different from a traditional water heater.

It is a space saving unit, and extremely quiet. And it...

It Gets the Job Done
I have owned this unit for one year. It has performred flawlessly. I installed it myself but, I had a plumber look over my plans. The most important part of the installation is the gas supply. I ran a three quarter line teed off right from the meter. This insured that the unit would get enough gas. I also ran a copper line from the heater to a six gallon electric tank. This eliminates the wait for hot water and the "sandwich" effect. My electric bill went up by about three dollars a month and my gas bill went down by twelve dollars. It might seem like it would take forever for this unit to pay for itself but, in my circumstance I have to use a direct vent or powervent water heater. These units cost about seven hundred dollars and carry only a five or six year warranty. We need to use a water softener so the tanks usually would only last about six years. This unit has a twelve year warranty so it will pay for itself after six years because it will last twice as long. We have four...

Finally, hot water at my kitchen sink
I've put up for years with having to run the hot water at my kitchen sink for 3 minutes before I got hot water, which was actually only warm. I live in a house where the water heater, powered by propane, is about 40 feet from the kitchen. I installed the DHCE-10 in a weekend myself, it fit on the back wall right under the sink. The hardest part was running the 40 amp circuit over a 60 foot run for the power. Plumbing wasn't bad, this unit uses the cold water for the inlet, I turned off the hot water valve under the sink and capped it off and teed into the cold water line. The outlet side of the heater is teed, one to the hot water inlet on the faucet, one to the dishwasher.

Before having the DHCE-10 I would have to keep the propane heater turned almost as high as it would go so the water would be hot at the kitchen sink. There was a fair amount of temperature drop over a 40 foot run in a slab foundation. After powering up the DHCE-10, I had 120 degree water at my kitchen...

Only lasted 4 years
Pros
I installed two E10,s about four years ago. Love them. Installation was a breeze. They maintain constant water temperature because of the digital controls. Zero maintenance.

Cons
One just malfunctioned. The digital display is dark, so the power supply must be bad.

Ordered a replacement because I wanted a direct replacement.

Five Stars
Great instant hot

Disappointed
I bought this to heat water for the kitchen sink in our guest house. The installation was easy - AFTER I spent the whole weekend running a 240 volt, 40 amp circuit to power this heater. I expected lots of hot water with all that power going into the unit. But to my disappointment, the water trickles out of the faucet due to the flow restrictor in the unit. I couldn't believe how inadequate it was but to my surprise, it meets the specs (40 degree temp rise at 1 gallon per minute). So if you think you want one of these heaters, I suggest you try running your faucet at whatever your proposed heater specs say and be sure you will be happy with it. Then add in the cost of installing the electical circuit. The end of my story is that I bought a 5-gallon, under sink heater that plugs into a 120 volt outlet.

Beautiful Tankless Waterheater
I have the Natural Gas "NG" version of this. I learned more than I anticipated needing to, on my quest for the perfect tankless water heater. The Bosch 800 series was my perfect model.

While it is now obvious to me why this model is head and shoulders above anything else, you may need to spend some time learning about tankless water heaters to see why it is so significant.

1) Ultra efficient, it has 92% efficiency. Only the top of the line models are this efficient. This means lower yearly costs.
2) Powerful: 10 gpm! This puppy can power most houses that have mutiple showers and sinks. It is their highest flow unit. It can also be daisy chained so another unit can be attached.
3) 15 year PRO warranty. Instead of the 5 year or 10 year of other models.
4) New Technology. This is the only Bosch unit to have the technology to create this efficiency and the cooling benefits.
5) Reliable. Even though it is cutting edge, some of its parts are based...

the bane of my existence
I've never written a review of any product before - good or bad. But I'm compelled to review this product on as many forums as possible as it's become, as I said in the subject heading, the bane of my existence.

My husband is all about energy efficiency and insisted on purchasing this Bosch tankless hot water heater even though, after installation, it cost more than 7 times what a normal hot water heater would have cost. We hired a certified licensed professional to install it.

What a mistake! The heater "errors out" and stops producing hot water at least 5 times a day. I've gotten to the point where I have to run down to the basement to see if it needs to be reset each time I turn on the hot water. I rarely use the dishwasher anymore as the water turns cold during the cycle without me knowing it and the dishes never get clean. Our plumber keeps recommending we turn the temperature down. It is now down so low that I'm no longer able to enjoy a hot shower...

Recenty Installed T-KJr Tankless Water Heater
The heater installed easily and works very well; however the unit was not complete as delivered. After the unit was installed the plumber discovered that the heater was missing the inlet water filter and O-ring seal. I called the service center listed on the installation manual and got the usual response that the retailer was somehow responsible for the contents of the shipment. I sent Amazon an E-mail and got no response; I sent Takagi an E-mail and got no response. Finally I had to go to the Takagi service center in Irvine and purchase the missing parts; obviously I could have sent the heater back to Amazon and had a replacement unit delivered, but think about how much trouble and expense this would have been compared to the missing parts that were less that $10. One final note: I know that Takagi tested the unit before it left their factory because there was still water in it when the plugs were removed from the connection ports, but there was also Teflon thread dope in the...

Excellent
The T-KJR does all that units costing twice as much will do plus more. They are rated for heating applications, which most tankless heaters aren't, and have a wide range of easy to change temperature settings. We now have a number of these as heat sources for individual apartments. They work extremely well in combination with European style, wall panel radiators. They may not have quite as high an energy efficiency rating as some, but at this price point that is almost irrelevant. For me, a few percentage points in efficiency is not worth 2-3 times the price. Other, pricier units probably won't last long enough to recapture the difference anyway.

unanswered questions
My unit is installed and working fine. I had to do some research to limit wild goose chases. A friend wanted me to install a unit. I told him I would after a few questions were answered.
1. With a stack out two feet above a 5/12 pitch roof, do I really need a back flow preventer? I really do not live in an area where cold air can enter the stack and freeze the unit, I do not smell harmful exhaust gases blowing back into the kitchen.
2. Do I really need a vertical condensate drain? The unit is servicing one person. After a 30 minute shower, I placed my hand directly on the exhaust stack. It was not hot enough to remove my hand. What condensate?
3. I was told I needed stainless steel double walled type F Stack out pipe. Considering the price, I do not think the inner wall aluminum is going to rust anytime soon.
4. I have not installed a pressure relief valve because the one required has not been available at the plumbing supply house. This item seems not applicable...

Good electric tankless for the money
I bought this unit for my radiant heat floor. Like any other electric boiler for a radiant heat floor, it uses a lot of energy but it gets the job done with ease.

Ecosmart 27kW Tankless water heater
I purchased and installed this produce to replace my aging gas water heater.

I am pleased with its operation and simplicity of use. It is as advertised and I hope that also holds for their estimates for energy savings. I will monitor my consumption to see if it is saving me energy cost.

The main thing learned from a couple of months of use is that when providing water for filling the tub the flow is to high for the water heater to supply. The tub faucet flow rate is about three times what any other faucet or shower head and is quite a bit over the GPM rating of the unit. There is a relatively easy workaround and that is to turn the fill rate for the tub down to a rate within the units capability. This means the tub filling is a slower process than before but a small inconvenience. We do not use the tub as often as the showers and have gotten use to it.

So far I really like the unit.

A great heater. Couldn't be happier.
I have 2 installed in my attic 2 years ago. 1 for my domestic potable feeding by master bath and roof deck showers and the other for my sub floor hydronic heating. All the hot water I need any time I need it. Adapts to battery back up for power out's and has a great remote controller where I can diagnose the heater or change settings without crawling into the crawl space. Easy to install and their service department is very responsive. Technical support was quick to access and they knew what they were talking about. The type of service I wish I could get from Comcast.

I'm about to install another in my basement to supply my kitchen and other bath and a half. I'm going to include a heat exchanger as well to run my hydronic sidewalk ice melt system.

Check your vent pipe before ordering
This hot water tank heater was bought in order to replace an 11 year old tankless hot water heater. It seemed like it would not be a big deal to take a wall mounted tankless heater out and replace it with another. Wrong! This Rinnai product requires Rinnai venting. The old HWH was taken out and the new one installed, but we continued to get error codes. We called our local gas company and had them come out to help figure out the problem and they told us our venting would not work. Turns out they sell Rinnai products and this HWH is an older model, they did not have the correct vent pipes. The vent pipes had to be ordered. We had to take the new HWH out and re-install the old one that was only giving us lukewarm water. One week later and almost an additional $700, we finally have the new HWH installed.Yes, I have great hot water now and I am hoping that the high efficiency unit will earn back the additional cost for the heater and the install over a period of time. Turns out the local...

Seisco RA-28 Tankless Water Heater
I've owned the Seisco RA-28 Tankless Electric Water Heater for over 8 years. I only use it half the year however. Until Feb. 2012, the heater operated flawlessly and was exactly what I hoped for. Since then, I've had a repeated problem with the circuit board, which required me to replace it 3 times. As a result, I've had a few opportunities to communicate with their president and customer support personnel.

Everyone I spoke with, from the receptionist to the technicians, especially Anthony and Sarah, was outstanding and tried to help any way possible. They were very patient, knowledgeable, and pleasant, and I can't praise them enough. And when my plumbers called them, they walked them through every step necessary to address any problems or installations.

I was particularly surprised at how easy it was to communicate with the president, David Seitz, who, on his website, invites customers to contact him if they need assistance. He told me the Seisco family...

Excellent Product, Highly Recommended, Oustanding Support(Sarah Thompson, Seisco Inside Sales/Technical Support )
This is the 2nd house and 2nd unit I've purchased as a whole house hot water heater. In both cases, I've removed two existing 40gal heaters, swapping out for single RA-22 and most recent install a RA-28 . In both cases both units have exceeded our expectations for on demand hot water. The RA-28 has been able to support our multiple hot water demands with cloths washer, teenage showers and dishwasher. My daughter and wife just love it (long forever hot showers). Additionally, our electric bill was reduced approximately $35 per month after the swap out.

Our only service issue has been with the current RA-28 unit(6years old) detected a leak and turned the power off to the unit. Unfortunately the few drops of water contacted the power control board and a temperature sensor, shorting them out. I found the leak, tightening slightly the offending heating element which fixing the leak. I'd like to extend my thanks to the company's outstanding technical support(Sarah...

Noritz NRC111-DV NG Condensing Tankless 8.4 GPM Natural Gas Water Heater

Noritz Direct Ventilation Condensing Water Heater 8.4 Gpm Natural GasSKU: NRC111-DVNGNoritz is proud to introduce our most efficient tankless heaters, the next generation in tankless technology - condensing heaters. This innovation utilizes a dual heat exchanger, a fusion of stainless steel and copper heat exchangers. The 100% stainless steel component captures the residual heat from the exhaust temperature to preheat the incoming water before it runs through the main copper heat exchanger. This results in dramatic reduction of carbon dioxide and increases the heater's efficiency level to over 93%! Another benefit of this technology is lower exhaust temperatures, which means less costly PVC can be used for its venting. A PVC adapter is built into the heater for easy installation. It's the coolest and greenest tankless water heater available today! This is the highest performing condensing unit on the market today. Some other brand(s) may have a bit higher efficiency rating, but there is...

Noritz NRC111-DV NG Condensing Tankless 8.4 GPM Natural Gas Water Heater

Customers say's :
So far, so good
I had this model (Noritz NRC111-DV / 842) professionally installed about a year ago. My review will not focus on installation, but strictly on the unit's operation and performance relative to a conventional 40-50 gallon natural gas tank water heater which it replaced.

I'll start with some background on how I made the decision to go with this unit. I had a 15 year old 40 gallon natural gas tank water heater in my home that was showing signs of failing...excessive rumbling from scale buildup inside the tank and inability to to produce enough hot water to meet peak demand for my family of 5. I plan to stay in my home for the foreseeable future and had no problem making a long-term investment. The primary deciding factors for me were cost (initial cost, operating costs, maintenance costs) and hot water capacity to meet peak demand. I had researched several types of tank and tankless water heaters, including the traditional 40 and 50 gallon tank units, condensing tank...

i'd buy it again, that's how much i like it
I will have to post a picture of how it looks installed, but let me start from the beginning.

I had an older conventional heater which was 40 gallons. After it was all set and done and the old heater was laying on it's side, i cut it open to see how much rust was on the inside after 15 yrs of use. To my surprise, there was none, just the anode rod was 3/4 gone. Maybe the burners were gone and that's why the hot water would run out so quickly.

Anyway, i purchased the heater from the local plumbing store. I had a hard time finding a store that would sell to homeowners, but i found one and purchased it. I am very handy and wanted to install it myself. My incoming gas line is 3/4" and the unit needs at least that to run. 1/2" gas line would starve the unit.

So, i purchased it, took out the old unit, purchased the additional line and started working on it. The unit needs to be vented to the outside and they do not provide the 4" PVC SHDL 40 pipe. THe...

no service
After a couple of years using an ACT-303 I had to upgrade to an ACT-909 to work with my new tankless water heater. The ACT 909 worked for a couple of days and then stopped. I followed through all of the troubleshooting and determined there is a problem with the check valve that allows water to flow across from the hot side to cold side & then closes when up to temp. I was finally able to talk to a tech at Laing ITT (after many tries to get a real person) to confirm that was the likely problem but I was directed to followup for warranty from the seller. My email to myplumbingstuff via Amazon about a potential replacement went unanswered. I tried the 800 number for myplumbingstuff but was never able to reach a real person. I think the Autocirc pumps are good products I'm just disappointed in the lack of service......

Works perfectly
This version of the ACT-909 is for retrofit installations. No return line needed.

I installed an ACT-909 a year or so ago, after we had a tankless water heater installed in the 3rd floor attic. Because it was inconvenient to install at the farthest location of the new part of our house, on the 2nd floor just beyond the shower, I installed it on the first floor beneath the shower. I don't know how our plumbing is run, but the ACT-909 works well in this configuration. The shower used to take a long time to get hot. Now it's hot within 5 - 10 seconds. We are happy.

The unit is completely silent and vibration free. I haven't bothered with the timer, so I am sure we are wasting money there.

I am buying a second ACT-900 for the old part of the house which has the same long lag in receiving hot water on the first floor kitchen.

Defective part was replaced free of charge by the manufacturer
After a week working fine, there was a horrible knocking noise and several leaks. Repaired the leaks. The knocking persisted, even after performing all the recommendations to remove air in the pipes. The seller sent me to deal with the manufacturer who eventually returned my call. Their tech was on vaca, so they let me speak to the production manager. He totally hooked me up with a replacement.
